Description

A friendship rekindled - worth more than any long lost treasure.

The two friends had a lot to catch up on when Dash returned to Griffonstone. In the years they had been apart, Dash had been through so many great adventures - the return of Discord, the siege of Canterlot, Twilight's ascension, Tirek's rampage... there was so much to tell. Gilda listened, her awe and jealousy clear, even as she tried to remain cool and stoic to her old friend's tales. More than once she had found herself pressing for more information, caught up in the cyan pegasus' story, but she quickly tried to reign in her unguarded enthusiasm with a simple "Cool..."
The griffon wasn't without her own tales to tell, but they were more often than not tinged with that same bitterness that seemed to surround Griffonstone. Next to the colourful, triumphant adventure's of her friend, Gilda found her own stories somewhat lacking... and lonely. Her solo exploits felt vaguely hollow against Rainbow Dash's friend-filled experiences, and it was only recently that she realised she was missing something. There was a hole, one that no amount of gold could fill. And now, sitting across from her old friend, she felt that hole disappearing.
She was working on turning Griffonstone around, restoring its pride and getting its inhabitants to stop being so isolated, but it wasn't easy. She'd made some headway, actually getting a number of griffons to act sociable and - dare she say - friendly... well, friendly might have been a stretch, but at least they weren't acting like total jerks anymore. A few griffons had even started trying to fix up the town, for a nominal fee of course - they were still griffons after all, and that side of them wasn't going to change any time soon.
It was all a work in progress, and so it was nice just having a true blue friend to talk with again.

Before either of them knew it, the day was done and Luna's night had arrived.
"You know, if you don't need to head back right away, you could always..." Gilda shrugged, trying to keep her tone cool. "You know, stay here for the night. I wouldn't really mind."
Dash grinned. "Sure, that'd be awesome! It'll be just like the slumber parties we had when we were kids."
Gilda couldn't help but flash a smile of her own. "Just don't wet the bed this time..."
"Hey!" the pegasus bristled. "That happened once, and it only happen because you put my hoof in a bowl of warm water!"
"Pfft! Whatever, loser," Gilda smirked mischievously. "I hope you're diaper trained now, because if my nest is damp in the morning, you're the one cleaning it up."
"Yeah right," Dash retorted, jumping to her hooves. "This coming from the bird-brain who nearly laid an egg in our tent when I told her the story of the Headless Horse!"
"Never happened," Gilda waved a claw dismissively.
"Did too!"
"Was this the same camping trip when you got stung by a bee and cried?"
"No, it was the camping trip that you lit your stupid quiff on fire while roasting marshmallows," Dash sniggered, flicking the long feathers protruding from Gilda's crown.
The griffon batted her hoof away. "Don't touch the do, pony!"
"Or what?" she flicked them again.
"Touch them again and I'm shaving that rainbow off your head! Then they'll have to start calling you Cue-ball Dash!"
"Bring it on, lion-butt!"
The two glared, both poised to pounce... until a snicker escaped the pegasus' lips. The griffon's beak parted in a grin, their hard gazes easing as they stared at each other. And then the laughter broke out. Dash dove forward, knocking the griffon on her back. Gilda was about to start fighting back, expecting a good old fashioned wrestling match, but the pegasus simply wrapped her hoofs around her.
"I've missed you, Gilda..." Dash beamed happily.
The griffon couldn't help but smile, an unfamiliar feeling of happiness settling in her breast. She wrapped a foreleg around her friend.
"I've missed you too... Dweeb..."

I dare you to look at this and say "they're just good friends." I dare you.
